Make The Cutest Diaper Cake Ever!

A diaper cake not only makes a stunning centerpiece, but is also a useful gift for the mother-to-be. You might be wondering what in the world we are talking about and have no clue what it is. It is a lovely work of art created by rolling diapers, arranging them in tiers and decorating it to look like a cake. This may sound complicated to you, but it is actually quite easy to make.

We will be taking you through the step by step process of constructing your very own diaper cake. You will be so proud of what you have accomplished, and the best part is that it also doubles as your gift to the mother-to-be!

Let’s get started!

What you will need.

  • cake platter or anything large and strong enough to be the base of your cake
  • 60-70 size 1 diapers
  • 60-70 small clear rubber bands
  • 6 large clear rubber bands
  • 8 ounce baby bottle
  • 4-5 ounce baby bottle
  • ribbons for decoration
  • baby booties, pacifiers, bibs, etc. for decoration

How to make a diaper cake.

Step 1. Getting ready to build your cake.

Tightly roll up your diapers and secure with a small rubber band. Be sure to roll all of them first, so that the next few steps will be go by a lot faster. Depending on how you want your cake to look, you can either roll them with the design facing in or out. If the design is facing in, then your cake will be white. If it is facing out, then the design will be a visible part of your cake decorations.

Step 2. Building the tiers of your cake.

Place the 8 ounce baby bottle in the center of your base. Surround the bottle with enough of the rolled diapers to cover it, and secure with a large rubber band. Repeat this process another two to three times, depending on how large you want your bottom tier to be.

For your second tier, make a ring of diapers around the top of the 8 ounce bottle. Repeat this one to two more times and you are ready to build the top tier.

The top tier is built by surrounding the 4 ounce baby bottle with one ring of diapers. Once you are finished with the top tier your cake is built. Now for the fun part!

Step 3. Decorating your diaper cake.

Now that your cake is built you can move on to decorating it. We will give you some basic ideas for you to embellish on. When decorating, try to tie in the theme of your baby shower. That way you can use your diaper cake as the centerpiece of your celebration.

Start by tying a wide ribbon around all three tiers of your cake. After you’ve tied as much ribbon as you feel is necessary, start adding the decorative elements. Baby items such as booties, bibs and onesies made into rosettes work well with any theme. Some other cute items that you can adorn your cake with are rubber duckies, silk flowers, teddy bears, the possibilities are endless. You are only restricted by your imagination, so get your creative juices flowing!

When you are done, your finished product will be a beautiful diaper cake for all eyes to enjoy!
